Book Cover Details and Examples

Due Monday, 10 November 2014

Book Cover Dimensions for Board

Final Deliverables:
  1. Board with flat book cover design (see above) - mounted on 12" x 18" board
  2. Mocked up book** - either get a book and wrap cover around it, make a book, or wrap a sketchbook.

** Book cover dimensions between board and book comp may be different - you may need to adjust your book jacket design to fit your book, if you don't pick a book form that matches the board cover's dimensions.

CONCEPT IS KEY! Your book cover should give some insight into the book's narrative, characters, and/or time period, if relevant. It should not tell too much, but pique someone's interest so that it compels them to pick it up and want to find out more. Also think about how it would look on a book shelf at a store or in a library.

Your finals need to include the following:
1. Title
2. Author
3. Publisher / logo
4. Bar code
5. Pricing information
6. Synopsis and/or Author bio and/or Reviews (on back, or if you choose, inside jacket folds)

You are not required to create a jacket, but you can if you'd like...obviously that will mean that you need to readdress the book dimensions on the board.

For next class, you should have a minimum of three concept sketches to show me (not done on the computer). Be sure that your blog with previous book cover versions and your synopsis is updated. You may also want to create a blog post showing book cover styles that you find inspirational.

I will talk to you all individually, and we will discuss which directions have the most potential.

A few examples! I'll update with more as they come in.
